Max Rossi
Personal Background: Max Rossi was born in Rome, Italy. In 1990 he started his photography career with the Italian papers. He joined Reuters in 2003. He became a professional in photography by reading technical guide books and other photography. He takes world renowned and award winning photos. His earliest memory of photography is from a school visit to Fiumicino airport when he was probably 11 or 12. He also covered the Pope Paul II funeral.
Style: Max Rossi has taken memorable pictures of Formula One races, Italian football matches and events from the Athens Olympic Games. He focus on taking photos from events in the Vatican to Olympic sports. As a Reuters photographer he covers news, politics, sports and more. He loves to capture the moment where you can feel emotions through the photo, he took one photo at the Pope's funeral when the pages of the bible are moving over his coffin, he said that this photo was his favorite.
Philosophy: I believe Max Rossi loves to take pictures and cover stories of the unknown. He said he loves taking pictures of events because you never know what will happen. For this reason I think thats why he is most famous for his sports photography. Sports have so many unknowns in a game so capturing that in a photo could be very special. He also wants people to be able to connect with the photo and be able to remember feelings through a photo.
Influences: Reading and doing research on Max Rossi has definitely grown my respect and understanding for photography and the deeper meaning behind some photos. Looking at some of his work in sports photography has also made me more interested in possibly doing that in the future. Since I love to play and watch sport, doing research on Max Rossi definitely opened my eyes to a possible interest in sports photography.
Compare and Contrast
This was my favorite one to create. I thought I got the props almost just about right. It was hard to get the correct positioning but i tried my best. Overall I really like my take on his photo.
This photo was the hardest to recreate, because I had to make sure that they were in the right positions. And i couldn't fully recreate and action shot.
This photo was probably the easiest to recreate. I really liked his photo and knew it was one that I wanted to recreate. My recreation wasn't the best but I definitely did the best I could.
Personal Artist Statement: Max Rossi's images tell a story, they have emotion. I tried the best to recreate this emotion. My first photo Young Tennis Boy, I tried to get all the props right. I also tried getting the correct pose and facial expression but my model was not that cooperative. My second photo was very hard to recreate mostly because it was more of an action shot than the others. My last photo was very easy to recreate, and I also had the most fun takings these photos. After looking at his work and then trying to recreate it, I can better understand how to take sports action shots.
